Years after launching its first smartwatch, following a Kickstarter crowdfund campaign back in 2013, Peddle is now releasing Pebble 2 and Pebble Time 2 in a similar context, having already surpassed its $1 million goal. The new Pebble 2 comes with some design improvements and the added heart rate sensor.

Pebble 2 and Pebble Time are smartwatches that keep users connected during the day, allowing them to check notifications, show schedules, and perform all sort of simple tasks. Their main purpose is to replace smartphones when the user is out running or practicing various sports.

They come with built-in activity tracking, as well as heart rate monitors, a feature that Samsung will also incorporate into the upcoming Gear Fit 2. The new Pebble 2 is significantly lighter and thinner than its predecessor. It features Corning Gorilla Glass coating to replace the plastic on the previous Pebble, and it also has a built-in microphone, just like the Pebble Time 2.

Pebble Time 2 is a smartwatch that would combine features found on the previously released Pebble Time and Pebble Time Steel. As expected, the Pebble Time 2 is completely made of steel and has a smaller bezel than its predecessor, which increases the viewing area by 50%.

Shipment should start in a few months

Pebble Time 2 is coated in glass that’s resistant to scratches and can be submerged in water for up to 30 minutes. Pebble 2 is expected to come with a battery life of one week while the Pebble Time 2 should be charged once every 10 days.

The new Pebble smartwatches should come with a framework for apps called Actions, which incorporates shortcuts to Uber, texting apps, and many more.

Pebble smartwatches will connect to GPS, WiFi, and 3G data and allow users to run fitness services like Runkeeper or Google Fit, through the main Pebble Core. The smartwatches will also feature Pebble Core for hackers, which includes a hardware expansion port, early SDK for access, and 2 programmable buttons. Both of them will connect to iOS and Android smartphones.

Pebble 2 is already on sale on Kickstarter for the price of $99 whereas Pebble Time 2 costs $169. If all goes according to plan, shipment for the Pebble 2 should start in September while Pebble Time 2 might arrive for buyers in November.
