At the start of this month, we reported that OnePlus had created a smartwatch but decided against releasing to the market. Now, it seems that OnePlus CEO Carl Pei took to his Twitter account to release an original design sketch of the OnePlus smartwatch that was never manufactured.

The design sketch dated from last year and it paints a picture of how the OnePlus smartwatch would have looked. The supposedly OneWatch has a traditional circular design, which is quite similar to that of the Moto 360.

It had an interesting feature that allowed users to attach and disengage the watch’s circular body to a metallic cradle with openings for the wrist band. This would mean that the manufacturer could have released several designs for the wrist band to go with the OneWatch.

The wrist attachment design is quite similar to Apple’s Watch, so OnePlus wouldn’t have been bringing innovation to the market in this matter.

OnePlus doesn’t intend to release the smartwatch

OnePlus CEO Carl Pei explicitly mentioned in the tweet that the company won’t be releasing the smartphone. He stated “what could have been but never will be”, which basically shuts down any hopes of ever seeing the product on the market.

The OnePlus smartwatch was rumored to be powered by Android Wear, but company officials didn’t provide any details on this matter.

The reason why OnePlus decided to scrap plans to manufacture the OnePlus smartwatch, regard the fact that the company wished to focus on the production of smartphones, considering that much of its popularity on the market derives from there. Just recently, the company also announced that it will be discontinuing its line of mid-range OnePlus X smartphones, starting this year.

This means that the company will continue to focus its attention on promoting the flagship killer, the OnePlus 3 which was just recently released and is available on the developer’s website.
