Google and Lenovo partnered a while back in order to develop the Lenovo Phab2 Pro smartphone, which incorporates Project Tango. Lenovo unveiled its Phab2 Pro device earlier this month, and it seems that Google is working with Qualcomm in order to manufacture chips that could support Tango technology.

Qualcomm Technologies has expanded support for Tango technology to Snapdragon 820 and all future Snapdragon 800 and 600 series processors. The company has announced that its Snapdragon 652 offers many advantages for Google’s Project Tango, especially lower power consumption and higher processing speed.

Tango technology makes use of five sensors, the gyroscope, accelerometer, and three camera sensors. It’s quite obvious that the device with Tango technology would need some more processing power so that it can manage all the data that it receives.

Both the Snapdragon 600 and 800 series share similar basic hardware and design platform, so it’s only natural that they would be optimized for Tango technology. With this move, Google and Qualcomm signal the fact that Tango technology will become quite ubiquitous on the smartphone market.

Qualcomm revealed that Snapdragon 600 and 800 processors come with integrated high-frequency clocks, which are used for enabling smooth augmented reality experiences, needed when running Tango.

Lenovo launched the Phab2 Pro with Tango technology in June

The company has already made some Tango-specific software optimizations to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, the one that’s incorporated in the Lenovo Phab2 Pro, released at the start of July.

Google’s Tango technology makes use of the phone’s sensors and cameras in order to understand the device’s location and create a three-dimensional map of indoor spaces. Lenovo’s Phab2 Pro has the capacity to display data in 3D and capture over 250,000 measurements per second.

Lenovo Phab2 Pro also comes with a 6.4-inch display with Quad HD resolution, a 4,050mAh battery, and 2.4 Turbo Charging feature. It also provides 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Rear camera capacity reaches 16MP whereas the front snapper has 8MP.
