The guys over elementary OS have released a second Beta version of the highly anticipated elementary OS 0.4 “Loki” operating system, fixing numerous of the issues reported by users since the first Beta.

This time, the announcement was made by Daniel ‘DanRabbit’ Foré, who reports that more than 70 bugs reported by public beta testers since last month’s Beta release have been squashed, and that many of the fixes are in fact configuration changes, which means that they won’t be available to those running the first Beta build, so they’ll have to make a fresh install.

“Even though it’s only been a short month since Beta 1, we’ve already fixed over 70 issues that testers have reported to us. Beta 1 testers, make sure to run your updates to receive the following fixes plus everything else listed on this page,” explains the developer. “Some of the fixes listed are configuration changes and will not be available to Beta 1 testers as updates. In order to receive the full list of fixes, we highly recommend doing a clean install to test Beta 2.”

Based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

As we reported last month when the first Beta of elementary OS 0.4 “Loki” was announced, the upcoming GNU/Linux operating system will be based on the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) distro, which means that will be an LTS (Long Term Support) release supported with security updates for a period of five years, until 2021, and that it borrows many of its core features, such as the Linux 4.4 LTS kernel.

The development cycle of elementary OS 0.4 “Loki” will continue with a first RC (Release Candidate) build, whose release date we don’t know yet. After that, there might be a second RC if bugs are still present, but rest assure that the final release is getting closer and closer, and that you’ll be able to enjoy one of the greatest elementary OS releases of all times.
