Hackers claiming to be Chinese, have defaced official government portals for two local government units (LGUs) from the Philippines.

Authorities noticed the incidents on Saturday, July 16. The two affected LGUs are for the cities of Loon and Panglao, in the Philippines’ Bohol region, on the Island of Bohol.

At the time of writing, the Panglao website has been taken down for maintenance, while the Loon portal still shows the defacement message, which reads:

Nobody can give you freedom. Nobody can give you equality or justice. If you are a man you take it. – Chinese Government

The hackers signed their defacement message as the “Chinese Government,” which linked to the @AnonKeyGen Twitter account.

The defaced page also featured the famous Guy Fawkes mask on its background, one of Anonymous’ official marks.

The linked Twitter account seems to belong to an inactive Anonymous member from Brazil. A linked YouTube account also shows that he was active in past Anonymous campaigns that focused on South America and Brazil.

Softpedia has contacted the hacker to inquire about his involvement in the attack, if he is involved, or if somebody added a link to his account without permission.

The defacement of these two Philippines LGU portals comes a few days after the Permanent Court of Arbitration at The Hague in the Netherlands unanimously ruled in favor of the Philippines in its conflict with China over several islands in the West Philippine Sea.
